National Law University Delhi has opened AILET 2027 applications. The admission notice is dated 7 August 2026, the application window is live now, and the closing date is 10 November 2026. Admit cards are issued on 30 November 2026 and the entrance test is on Sunday, 13 December 2026. The application fee is Rs 3,000 for General, OBC and EWS candidates, and Rs 1,000 for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
This matters to Class 12 students because NLU Delhi does not admit through CLAT. It runs its own exam, so a student who wants this university has to fill a second form on a second portal. Everything below is taken from the university’s official AILET portal, read on 9 August 2026.

You have three months, which sounds generous and disappears quickly. Note that AILET closes ten days after the CLAT 2027 deadline of 31 October 2026, and the two exams are a week apart. Students applying to both are managing two portals, two fees and two deadlines.
Who can apply: AILET 2027 eligibility
- You must have passed the Higher Secondary (10+2) examination or an equivalent with at least 45% aggregate marks.
- The minimum is 42% for OBC candidates and 40% for SC, ST and Persons with Disability.
- Students appearing for or awaiting Class 12 results can apply and sit the test. Eligibility must be met by a cut-off date, which the university notifies along with the result.
- A candidate placed in compartment in the year of admission is treated as ineligible. This catches people out, so plan for it.
- Foreign Nationals need 65% in the 10+2 examination and are exempt from the entrance test.
There is no upper age limit stated in the eligibility rules on the portal.
AILET 2027 exam pattern and negative marking
The paper is two hours long and carries 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks, split across three sections.

Two details decide a lot of results here. First, there is negative marking: 0.25 marks are deducted per wrong answer, so four wrong answers wipe out one correct one. Blind guessing costs you. Second, Logical Reasoning is the biggest section at 70 marks, and it is also the tie-breaker — if two candidates finish on the same total, the one with higher Logical Reasoning marks ranks above. If that is still level, the older candidate gets preference, and after that a computerised draw of lots.
The university states plainly that legal principles may appear inside the reasoning questions, but no prior legal knowledge is required. You are not expected to have studied law.
How many seats AILET 2027 actually offers
This is a small university, and the seat count explains why the competition is what it is. The five-year B.A.LL.B. (Hons.) programme has 120 seats in total.

PwD reservation is horizontal, meaning those six seats sit inside the category totals rather than being added on top.
AILET 2027 application fee and what the course costs
The fee to apply is modest. The fee to study is not, and it is better to know that now than in July 2027.

If you are an SC or ST candidate, or a woman candidate, and your family holds a BPL card, you do not pay the application fee at all. That waiver is easy to miss and worth checking before you pay.

The fee also rises each year of the programme: tuition goes up by Rs 7,000 a year for Indian nationals, and hostel charges by Rs 3,000 a year. Families planning for this should budget for a rising figure, not a flat one.
Filing the form without making the usual mistakes
- Apply on the university’s own portal. Type the address yourself rather than following a search advertisement. Fake law-admission sites appear every season.
- Do not wait for November. Portals slow down badly in the final 48 hours, and a payment that fails on the last evening is your problem, not the university’s.
- Scan your documents now — a recent photograph, your signature, and your Class 10 and Class 12 details. Photographing a certificate at midnight on the closing day is how errors get made.
- Check the BPL waiver before paying if it might apply to you.
- Applying for both AILET and CLAT? They are separate exams, separate portals and separate payments. Assuming one covers the other is the most common and most avoidable mistake in law admissions.
The official AILET helpdesk is 011-40787555, open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on working days, and the support email is listed on the portal. No genuine university helpdesk will ever ask for your application password or an OTP. If a call, message or website asks for either, it is a fraud attempt — do not share them with anyone.
Is NLU Delhi worth a second application?
That depends on how set you are on law. If law is a maybe, read what the five-year integrated LL.B. actually involves before you spend anything — it is a five-year commitment straight out of school, and it suits some students far better than others. If law is settled and you are already applying through CLAT, then a second Rs 3,000 form for a 120-seat national law school is a reasonable addition, not a luxury.
