These dates are listed on the official CLAT 2027 page: consortiumofnlus.ac.in/clat-2027. You have almost three months to apply, so there is no need to rush the form on day one — but there is also no reason to leave it to the last week of October.
Who can apply for CLAT UG 2027
CLAT UG is the entry route to the five-year integrated LL.B. programme. The eligibility rules are short:

That last row matters most for current Class 12 students. You do not need your board result in hand to apply — you apply now and produce the marksheet later. What the CLAT UG paper looks like
The UG paper is a two-hour test worth 120 marks, made up of 120 multiple-choice questions of one mark each. There is negative marking of 0.25 mark for every wrong answer, so wild guessing costs you.

Read that table once more and notice what it is telling you. Half the paper is Current Affairs and Legal Reasoning. Only about one question in ten is maths. This is not an exam you clear by being good at calculation — it rewards students who read carefully, follow the news, and can apply a rule to a situation they have not seen before. Students from any stream, including Arts and Commerce, sit this exam on equal footing.
What a CLAT score is used for
CLAT is a national-level test for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate law programmes at the 26 National Law Universities that make up the Consortium. Undergraduate candidates are applying to the five-year integrated LL.B.; the one-year LL.M. is the postgraduate route and needs a law degree already. Several affiliate universities and organisations also accept CLAT scores, so one application has more reach than just the NLUs.
How to use the four months between now and the exam
The exam is on 6 December 2026. That is about four months of preparation time, which is enough if you use it steadily rather than in a panic in November.
- Start the newspaper habit today. Current Affairs and General Knowledge is the single largest block in the paper, and it cannot be crammed. Fifteen to twenty minutes a day of a national daily, kept up from August, will beat a month of last-minute revision.
- Practise reading long passages. English Language and Legal Reasoning are both passage-based. The skill being tested is reading a dense paragraph once and answering accurately, under time pressure.
- Do not neglect Quantitative Techniques. It is only about 10% of the paper, but it is Class 10-level arithmetic — percentages, ratios, averages, data interpretation. It is the cheapest section to secure marks in.
- Learn to skip. With 0.25 negative marking, an answer you are genuinely unsure of is not free. Practise deciding quickly whether a question is worth attempting.
- Keep the application separate from the preparation. Fill the form early in the window so it is done, then go back to studying. Chasing a form on 30 October while revising is avoidable stress.
Before you fill the form
Use an email address and phone number you will still have a year from now — every update about your application, admit card and result goes there. Keep your Class 10 and Class 12 details ready so you enter them correctly the first time. The application fee, category rules and detailed filling instructions are set out in the official CLAT 2027 notification, so read that on the Consortium site rather than relying on a summary anywhere else, including this one.

No genuine official will ever ask you for a password or an OTP. Do not share those with anyone, including someone claiming to be from a coaching centre or a helpline.
