The CTET September 2026 exam, the 22nd edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by CBSE for eligibility to teach in central government schools (KVS, NVS, and state governments that accept CTET scores), has been postponed from its original date of 6 September 2026. The postponement was ordered by the Supreme Court, which directed CBSE to allow eligible teachers sufficient time to obtain the mandatory TET qualification. CBSE had earlier issued admit cards on 4 September 2026; those will be reissued once a new date is confirmed.

Why Was CTET 2026 Postponed?

The CBSE CTET September 2026 exam postponement follows a direction from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The court emphasised that teachers who are required by statute to obtain TET qualification must be given a reasonable and adequate time window to apply and prepare, rather than being pressed into an exam with very short notice. CBSE complied by reopening the application portal from 25 August to 1 September 2026 and subsequently postponing the exam. This is similar to directions courts have issued in past teacher-recruitment and eligibility matters.

What Should CTET 2026 Candidates Do Now?
