SATHEE: The Government’s Free JEE, NEET and CUET Coaching From IIT Kanpur

SATHEE is a free entrance-exam preparation platform run by the Ministry of Education together with IIT Kanpur. It covers JEE, NEET, CUET, CLAT and several other national exams, and it costs nothing at all — no registration fee, no subscription, and no paid tier. Students from Class 9 upwards can use it.

If you are in Class 11 or Class 12 and private coaching is out of reach, this is the closest thing to an official alternative that already exists and is running today. This guide sets out exactly what is on it, who it is for, and how to start.

What SATHEE is, in one line

SATHEE stands for Self-Assessment Test and Help for Entrance Exams. The government’s own SWAYAM PRABHA portal describes it as a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and IIT Kanpur, built to support students preparing for college entrance and job-oriented exams, and part of how the National Education Policy 2020 is being put into practice. The platform itself lives at the official SATHEE portal, sathee.iitk.ac.in. Its own “Is SATHEE free?” page states plainly that there are zero registration fees, zero subscription fees and no premium tiers.

Which exams SATHEE covers

For school students the first four rows are the ones that matter. Where you start depends on your class

SATHEE does not put everyone in the same place. The portal splits students into four entry paths, and picking the right one matters more than people expect — a Class 9 student dropped into Class 12 revision material usually gives up within a week.

• Class 9 and 10 — foundation track, building the Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology base that JEE and NEET later assume.
• Class 11 — the full first-year syllabus, taught alongside your board course rather than instead of it.
• Class 12 — second-year syllabus plus revision and test practice.
• Class 12 passout — a dedicated drop-year track for repeat attempts.

What you actually get, free

This is the part worth being specific about, because “free coaching” can mean anything from a handful of videos to a full programme. On SATHEE the resource list for each track includes:

• Recorded video lectures, subject by subject, from professors at the IITs
• The full exam syllabus laid out subject-wise
• Previous year questions for JEE and NEET
• NCERT books, NCERT Exemplar and NCERT solutions, with video solutions for both exercise and exemplar problems
• Tutorial sessions, mock tests and self-assessment
• Important formula sheets
• College counselling guidance for after the result

The teaching faculty listed on the portal includes names most JEE and NEET aspirants will already know from their reference books — Prof. H. C. Verma and Prof. Ajoy Ghatak among the physics teachers. Content comes from a group of partner institutes: IIT Kharagpur, Bombay, Delhi, Madras, Guwahati, Kanpur, Roorkee, Dharwad, Patna, Bhilai and Ropar.

Live doubt clearing

SATHEE runs a doubt-clearing forum for Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology, staffed 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. It is closed on Sundays, on the second Saturday of each month, and on holidays. There is also a WhatsApp support line listed on the portal. Mentorship is offered by current IIT and AIIMS students who have cleared these exams themselves.

If your internet is weak: seven free DTH channels

This is the part almost nobody mentions, and for a student in a small town with patchy data it may be the most useful thing on this page. SATHEE broadcasts free on SWAYAM PRABHA DTH, 24 hours a day, with seven separate channels, all coordinated by IIT Kanpur. No internet connection is needed to watch.

The channel list is published on the official SWAYAM PRABHA channel allocation page. Ask your DTH operator for the SWAYAM PRABHA channels if they are not already in your package.

Study in your own language

The portal is offered in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. If you have been taught Physics in Hindi for two years, there is no reason to switch to English lectures now. Change the language from the selector at the top of the portal.

How to register on SATHEE, step by step

1. Go to sathee.iitk.ac.in and open Login / Register.
2. Create a free account. There is no fee at any stage.
3. Pick your language from the selector at the top.
4. Choose your entry path — Class 9–10 foundation, Class 11, Class 12 or Class 12 passout.
5. Choose your track: Engineering for JEE, Medical for NEET, or CUET, CLAT and the rest.
6. Start with the syllabus page for one subject, not with the video list. Knowing what you have to cover comes first.

A safety note. No genuine government portal will ever ask you for your password, an OTP, or your bank details to give you free study material. If a message, call or website claiming to be SATHEE asks for any of these, it is not SATHEE. The same caution applies when filling any online exam form, where some entries cannot be undone.

For schools: registering a nodal officer

SATHEE is not only for individual students. A school can register a nodal officer, or SPOC, so the platform can be used across classes. CBSE has issued a circular on this — Circular Acad-105/2024, dated December 2024, titled “SATHEE Project – reg.” — which is listed on the official CBSE Academics circulars page for 2024. Teachers and principals can register through the SPOC link on the SATHEE homepage.

How this fits with paid coaching

SATHEE does not replace a good teacher, and it will not chase you when you fall behind — that part is on you. What it does remove is the argument that serious entrance-exam preparation is impossible without paying for it. The lectures come from the same institutions students are trying to get into.
