JoSAA 2026 Round 2 Checklist Before You Act

First Check On The JoSAA Portal

  • Open the official JoSAA portal and confirm the current round status from your dashboard.
  • Read whether your seat is new, upgraded, unchanged or not allotted.
  • Check the available willingness options shown to you before selecting anything.
  • Complete only the payment, upload or reporting action requested in your dashboard.
  • Save every acknowledgement, payment receipt and document query response.

If you are waiting for JoSAA Round 2 or checking an updated allotment, do not rush into a choice without reading the dashboard carefully. Your next step depends on whether you are newly allotted, upgraded, or continuing with an earlier option. Always confirm the schedule and instructions on the official JoSAA portal first.

For Candidates Upgraded in Round 2

If you chose ‘Float’ or ‘Slide’ in Round 1 and have been upgraded, your previous seat is automatically cancelled and allocated to someone else. You cannot revert to your Round 1 seat.

You must download your new Provisional Seat Allotment Letter. Depending on the institute type (e.g., shifting from an NIT to an IIT system), you may need to submit fresh willingness and verify your documents again. Read the portal prompts carefully.

For First-Time Allotments in Round 2

If Round 2 is your first seat allocation, you must complete the entire online reporting process. This involves selecting your willingness status, paying the Seat Acceptance Fee, and uploading your Class 10, Class 12, and category certificates.

Do not wait until the last day of the reporting window. Document verification takes time, and if a query is raised on the final day, you may not have enough time to resolve it, leading to seat cancellation.

Managing Your Willingness Options

Review your options logically. Select ‘Freeze’ only if you are completely satisfied with the allotted institute and branch. Select ‘Float’ if you want to be considered for higher preferences across all institutes in Round 3.

Select ‘Slide’ if you are happy with the institute but want to wait for a better branch within that same institute. Remember, you can change Float to Slide or Freeze in subsequent rounds, but you cannot change Freeze back to Float.

Responding to Document Queries

Verifying officers rigorously check uploaded documents. If a certificate is blurred or outdated, they will raise a ‘Query’ on your JoSAA dashboard. They will not notify you via email or phone.

You must log in and upload the correct document before the Round 2 query response deadline. Ignoring this step is the most common reason candidates lose their seats.

FAQs

Do I have to pay the Seat Acceptance Fee again in Round 2?

No. If you already paid the Seat Acceptance Fee in Round 1, you do not need to pay it again upon upgrading in Round 2.

Can I go back to my Round 1 seat if I don’t like my Round 2 upgrade?

No. Once you are upgraded based on your preferences, the Round 1 seat is permanently lost.

What happens if I do nothing after a Round 2 allotment?

If this is your first allotment and you do not complete online reporting, the seat will be cancelled, and you will be removed from all subsequent JoSAA rounds.
