Getting into a health science degree in India is not one process. It is several, run by different official bodies, on different portals, under different rules. Students lose time every year by registering on one portal and assuming it covers the rest. This page maps which body controls which course, and how to check that a college is actually recognised.

MBBS and BDS — the Medical Counselling Committee
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) runs the online counselling for All India Quota MBBS and BDS seats. On its own portal, MCC states that its undergraduate counselling also covers institutional quota and domicile (internal candidate) seats at Aligarh Muslim University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi and the Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia, seats for wards of ESIC insured persons, and Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. That covers the All India Quota. The state quota seats in each state are handled by that state’s own counselling authority, which is a separate registration on a separate portal. Being in the MCC process does not place you in your state’s process.
BAMS, BHMS, BUMS and BSMS — the AACCC
Ayurveda, homoeopathy, Unani and Siddha degrees sit under a different ministry entirely. The Ayush Admissions Central Counseling Committee (AACCC), of NCISM under the Ministry of Ayush, conducts the online counselling for All India Quota undergraduate seats in BAMS, BSMS, BUMS, BHMS and B.Pharm (ITRA). By the committee’s own description this covers 15% of seats in government and government-aided colleges, 100% of seats in deemed universities, and central university seats. Source: aaccc.gov.in.
Different committee, different portal, different registration. Signing up with MCC does not enter you into the AACCC process, and the two run to their own schedules.
Checked 02 Aug 2026, 3:30 AM IST: the AACCC site still describes itself as offering “Admission and eCounselling Services for Session 2025-26”, and its page footer shows a last update of 23 February 2026. The 2026-27 undergraduate cycle had not been switched on there at the time of writing. Watch that portal directly for the changeover rather than relying on news reports.
Nursing — check the recognised-institutions list first
Nursing admission is not centralised the way All India Quota medical counselling is. Routes differ by state and by institution. What is central is recognition: the Indian Nursing Council is the national regulator for nursing education, and it publishes a List of Nursing Institutions on its own site. Find the college on that list before you pay anything to it. Source: indiannursingcouncil.org.
Veterinary science — the Veterinary Council of India
The Veterinary Council of India is a statutory body established under the Indian Veterinary Council Act, 1984, funded by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying. It regulates veterinary education and veterinary registration in India, which makes it the right place to check where a veterinary college stands. Source: vci.dahd.gov.in.
Pharmacy, allied health and paramedical courses
These have no single national counselling portal of the MCC or AACCC kind. Admission is generally handled at state or institution level, and the quality of colleges varies a great deal. Because there is no one central door, the verification step matters more rather than less: ask which council or state authority recognises the specific course, and confirm the college appears on that body’s own published list — not merely in the college’s own brochure or advertisement.

Three checks worth doing before you commit
- Is the institution on the regulator’s own published list? A college’s own website claiming approval is not evidence. The regulator’s list is.
- Are you registered with the right body? MCC, AACCC and your state authority are three separate processes. Work out which ones apply to the courses you actually want, and register for each one you need.
- Do you know what the degree lets you do afterwards? Each of these routes leads to a different kind of practice and a different registration. Read the regulator’s own description of the course before you choose it, not a coaching advertisement.
Dates, fees and eligibility rules on all of these portals change from year to year, and this page deliberately does not repeat them. Always confirm on the official website before acting.
